Douglas Hutchens

Douglas Hutchens has extensive work experience in the animal health industry. Douglas is currently serving as the Chief Scientific Officer at Animol Discovery, Inc. since July 2022. In addition, they are a member of the Animol Discovery Advisory Board since July 2020.

Douglas also holds a position as a Non-Executive Board Member in the Animalcare Group plc since February 2022.

Douglas has served on the Clinglobal Advisory Committee in Clinglobal since July 2020.

Before these roles, Douglas worked at Bayer Animal Health for several years. Douglas was the Executive Vice President and Head of Drug Discovery & External Innovation, as well as the Chief Veterinary Officer from July 2018 to July 2020. Douglas was responsible for leading research, drug discovery, and external innovation. Douglas also oversaw medical and regulatory governance and animal welfare. Prior to this, they held the position of Executive Vice President, Global Development Animal Health & Chief Veterinary Officer at Bayer Pharmaceuticals from September 2012 to July 2018. Douglas was responsible for leading the development, registration, and product maintenance of all food and companion animal products.

Before joining Bayer, Douglas held various roles at Elanco and Elanco Animal Health, where they gained experience in regulatory affairs, clinical research, and veterinary medicine.

Douglas Hutchens' career in the animal health industry began at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where they worked as an Assistant Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine from January 1998 to May 2002.

Douglas Hutchens has an extensive education history. Douglas obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1986. Douglas then went on to earn their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the same university in 1996. In 1998, they pursued further education and obtained a Master of Science degree in Veterinary Pathobiology (Parasitology) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Continuing their academic journey, they completed a Ph.D. in Parasitology from the same university in 2002.

Throughout their career, Douglas also pursued various executive programs and certifications. In 2012, they attended The Wharton School and completed an Executive Development Program. In 2013, they participated in the Bayer Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School. The same year, they obtained a certification for this program. In 2014, they attended The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and completed the Finance for Executives program. In 2015, they pursued the Customer Focused Innovation Program at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Additionally, Douglas obtained their veterinarian certification from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1996. Overall, their education history showcases a strong foundation in both veterinary medicine and business leadership education.
