Alford Young, Jr. is a distinguished academic and leader with extensive experience in sociology and diversity. Currently serving as the Faculty Director for the Anti-Racism Collaborative at the National Center for Institutional Diversity since July 2023, Young has held multiple key roles at the University of Michigan since September 1996, including Associate Director of the Center for Social Solutions and Chair of the Department of Sociology. In addition to these positions, Young has contributed to community service as a member of the Board of Directors for the Ann Arbor YMCA and has coordinated the Scholars Network on Masculinity and the Well-Being of African American Men. Young’s educational background includes a Ph.D. and MA in Sociology from the University of Chicago and a BA in African American Studies, Psychology, and Sociology from Wesleyan University.
