Aki-Juhani Kyröläinen

Aki-Juhani Kyröläinen, PhD has a range of work experience spanning from 1998 to 2023. Aki-Juhani began their career as a Customer Service Representative at Tallink Silja Oy from 1998 to 2006. Aki-Juhani then pursued their academic career, starting as a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Turku from 2006 to 2013, where they focused on syntax research using machine learning and Internet data. During this time, they received a four-year research award from the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.

Following their doctoral research, they worked as a Visiting Professor at the University of Tartu from 2013 to 2015, where they developed and delivered courses on data visualization and statistical analysis of linguistic data. Aki-Juhani then returned to the University of Turku as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2015 to 2017, overseeing large-scale big data projects focused on linguistic content analysis. Aki-Juhani collaborated with international research groups during this time and co-developed an R package for eye-tracking data cleaning and visualization.

From 2017 to 2021, they worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at McMaster University, where they secured significant research funding for a longitudinal study on cognitive and social well-being in older adulthood during COVID-19. Aki-Juhani supervised a team of researchers and completed 10 psycholinguistic studies using various methods and statistical analysis. Aki-Juhani provided mentoring to junior researchers and contributed to successful PhD defenses.

Currently, Aki-Juhani Kyröläinen holds the position of Researcher at Annalect since 2023, where they contribute to prompt engineering strategies and develops novel NLP metrics to enhance sentiment and content analysis outcomes in big data text classification. Aki-Juhani has also been involved in numerous NLP research projects, resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
