MOHS Surgeon at Anne Arundel Dermatology

The Virginia Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center is headed by Dr. Brian Johnson, a dermatologic surgeon who began his medical training at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Upon graduation, he was designated a United States Navy medical officer. His Navy medical career was diversified, serving on three naval ships — USS Yellowstone AD-41, USS Kearsarge LHD-3 and USS Iwo Jima LHD-7. He also participated in major deployments and field assignments with the Seabees and Special Forces. The majority of his clinical time was spent at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Dr. Johnson studied dermatology at Johns Hopkins, and completed a Mohs Surgery Fellowship at Northwestern Skin Cancer Institute in Chicago, following in the footsteps of his father, renowned dermatologist and dermatopathologist Dr. Bernett L. Johnson Jr. After 24 years of service, Dr. Johnson retired from the Navy and established Virginia Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center.

Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Surgery, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. Dr. Johnson treats conditions of the skin, hair and nails. However, his emphasis is on the treatment of skin cancer using the Mohs Micrographic surgical technique, an advanced surgical procedure for the treatment of skin cancers.
