Stephen Ford has a diverse work experience, starting in 2001 with Spotsnuts.com, where they served as a Marketing and Development Manager, focusing on developing new products based on user needs. Stephen then moved on to the Antelope Valley Union High School District, where they held various roles including Vice Principal and Principal, responsible for curriculum development, budgeting, and supporting teachers and students. In 2018, they became the Principal at William S. Hart Union High School District. In 2020, they joined Education Advanced as a Cardonex Account Executive and later became the Regional Vice President of Cardonex Sales. Currently, they are the Chief of Staff at California Online Public Schools.

The Antelope Valley Union High School District (AVUHSD) includes eight traditional and three alternative high schools, SOAR -- an early college high school on the Antelope Valley College campus, the no-cost, charter Academy Prep Junior High, an online education program and Antelope Valley Adult Education. The district serves 23,000 students in the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster, and the surrounding area.
