Michael Stern

Michael Stern is a data scientist with extensive experience at the intersection of product development and research. Currently at Anthropic since February 2024, Michael leads data science initiatives. Previously, as a Product Manager and Data Scientist at Forward from 2021 to 2023, responsibilities included governing clinical products and establishing data science and product analytics functions. At the University of Chicago, from 2019 to 2021, leadership was provided over an AI governance portfolio aimed at reducing bias in healthcare algorithms. Early experience also includes co-founding Spur Laboratories, where AI-enabled clinical diagnostics were developed, and working at Quest Diagnostics to create diagnostic algorithms using vast patient data. Before these roles, Michael contributed to building data science capabilities at ideas42, completed research at Stanford University, and interned at Zynga. Educational qualifications consist of a Master of Business Analytics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Symbolic Systems from Stanford University.
