Richard Liaw has a diverse work experience in various roles and positions. Richard started their career as a Research Assistant at UC Berkeley and UCSF in 2014, where they contributed to research projects. In 2015, they worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Zendesk, where they developed full-stack solutions and created visualization modules for survey results. At UC Berkeley, Richard worked as an Undergraduate Student Instructor from 2015 to 2019, providing instructional support. In 2017, they joined Berkeley RISE Lab as a Graduate Student Researcher, focusing on distributed systems, deep learning, and distributed deep reinforcement learning. During their time in Berkeley RISE Lab, they worked on open source projects such as RLlib and Ray. Currently, Richard is working at Anyscale as an Engineering Manager and previously served as a Team Lead, leading a team in the development and maintenance of open source integrations for the Ray project.
