Wieland Hill has a diverse work experience spanning various companies and roles in the field of advanced sensing, optical technology, and laser development. Wieland is currently a Member of the Board of Directors at the Fiber Optic Sensing Association (FOSA) and the Director of Instruments R&D at AP Sensing. Prior to this, they held positions such as Director of Advanced Sensing and CTO at LIOS Technology, where they were responsible for managing R&D and developing fiber-optic instruments for distributed temperature and strain sensing. Wieland also served as the Chairman of the Technology Committee at FOSA and was the CEO of Dr. Gröbel UV-Elektronik GmbH. Before that, they worked as a Manager of Product Development at JENOPTIK AG and as the Director of Product Management/Optics Design at LIMO Lissotschenko Mikrooptik GmbH. Wieland also worked as a Product Manager at Lambda Physik AG (Coherent) and as a Senior Scientist at Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften – ISAS – e.V. Wieland has also been a Guest Researcher at Vienna University of Technology. Overall, their work experience demonstrates expertise in the development of optical and laser-based systems for various industries.

Wieland Hill completed their undergraduate education with a Diplom-Physiker degree in Physics, with a specialization in Theoretical Semiconductor Physics, from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from 1977 to 1982. Wieland pursued further studies at the Academy of Sciences, Berlin, where they earned their Dr. rer. nat. degree in Surface Science between 1983 and 1987.
