Salome Funes

Salome Funes is a Scientist at Apellis Pharmaceuticals since November 2022, with a prior role as a Graduate Student at the University of Massachusetts Medical School from September 2016 to October 2022. During the graduate studies, Salome conducted research on microglial dysfunction related to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, utilizing human iPSC-derived microglia-like cells. Salome's expertise includes various human stem cell technologies, particularly in the culture of induced pluripotent stem cells and the differentiation of motoneurons and microglia. Salome holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration from UMass Chan Medical School and a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology with a focus on Immunology from Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas - ESPE.
