Xiaoyong Zhao

Xiaoyong Zhao is a seasoned professional in the biopharmaceutical industry, currently serving as CMC Lead/Associate Director at Apellis Pharmaceuticals since January 2021, where expertise includes pegylated peptide and siRNA process development and manufacturing. Previously, Xiaoyong held roles as Sr. Scientist in External Manufacturing at Nektar Therapeutics, focusing on E-coli derived protein therapeutics, and Sr. Manager of Manufacturing Science & Technology at Sarepta Therapeutics, leading process improvements and tech transfers for PMOs. Prior experience includes managerial positions at Momenta Pharmaceuticals, where contributions were made to the development of FDA-approved complex generics, and postdoctoral research at both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California/Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Xiaoyong holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Florida.
