Emerson Mills has a long and varied work experience. In 2021, they were appointed as the Director of Software Engineering at Aperia Technologies. From 2018 to 2021, they held the role of Principal Engineer at Covered360. From 2016 to 2018, they held the roles of Nerd Emeritus and Technical Coach, Trainer and Organizational Coach at Odd-e. From 2015 to 2016, they held the role of Director of Software Development at NAVIS, where they were responsible for the Agile transformation in Engineering and Product Management. From 2014 to 2015, they held the role of Director of Engineering at The Handsel, where they were responsible for full stack implementation of an innovative commerce platform. From 2013 to 2014, they held the role of Sr. Director of Platform at DeNA West. From 2009 to 2013, they held the role of Agile Coach at Odd-e, where they established the Japan subsidiary and created the initial customer base for coaching and training. From 2009 to 2010, they held the role of Director at the Japan Perl Association. From 2007 to 2009, they held the role of CTO at Orinoco K.K., where they had ownership of all technical aspects of the company. Lastly, from 2007 to 2009, they held the role of Agile Development Coach through individual consultancy.

Emerson Mills received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Japanese Language and Linguistics from the University of Michigan in 2000. During 1998 and 1999, they studied Linguistics and Culture Studies at the University of Tokyo, sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Education. In 2020, Mills became a Certified LeSS Coach through The LeSS Company. In 2019, they obtained a Certified Scrum Developer (CSD) certification from the Scrum Alliance. In 2011, Mills became a Certified Scrum Trainer from the Scrum Alliance. They also hold certifications from The LeSS Company and Scrum Alliance as a Certified LeSS Practitioner, Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Product Owner, and PSM II from Scrum.org.
