Chris Shaffer

Appalachian Leadership Institute Fellow at Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC)

Chris Shaffer is an experienced professional currently serving as a Fellow at the Appalachian Leadership Institute with the Appalachian Regional Commission since October 2023. As Co-Chair of the Strengthening Chillicothe Committee since July 2022, this individual was appointed by the U.S. government. Chris has held various leadership roles at Shawnee State University since January 2011, focusing on grants, sponsored programs, and institutional effectiveness. Additionally, as a ServeOhio Commissioner since 2015, Chris served on the executive committee, appointed by Governors John Kasich and Mike DeWine. Previous roles include Assistant Director and Director for the Governor's Office of Appalachia, Operations Manager for the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, and multiple positions in the U.S. Army. Chris holds an MBA from Ohio Dominican University and a Bachelor of Science in Human Geography and Environmental Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
