Sowmya Gopalan

Sowmya Gopalan is a Deep Learning Research Engineer at Apple since December 2018, previously serving as a Sr. Applied Scientist and Applied Scientist II at Amazon Lab126 from October 2012 to December 2018, where significant contributions included developing a computer vision feature for the Echo Show and working on depth sensing and color camera prototypes. Earlier experience includes an internship at InterDigital Communications focused on wireless communication algorithms and a Graduate Research Associate role at the Ohio Supercomputer Center, where research on image processing for material science images led to a thesis on grain size estimation in steel-weld images. Sowmya holds a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication from RV College of Engineering.
