Pedro Alcaraz

Optical Scientist at Applied Energetics

Pedro Alcaraz has been working in the field of optics since 2021, when they began their role as an Optical Scientist at Applied Energetics, Inc. Theircurrent research focuses on pulse and wavelength agile fiber-based ultrashort pulse (USP) laser systems and the classical and semi-classical photon/phonon interactions. Prior to this role, Pedro was a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Arizona, where they worked under Dr. Pierre Blanche's photonics group in the College of Optical Sciences. Theirwork involved the investigation of photorefractive materials and their applications towards novel engineering solutions. In 2019, Pedro also held a Lecturer role at the University of Arizona Honors College, where they co-created a Philosophy of Science (H195I) course tailored for college freshmen. Additionally, in 2016, Pedro worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson under Dr. Terry Matsunaga in the Department of Medical Imaging. Theirresearch focused on developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic applications for perfluorocarbon-based (PFC) microbubbles and nanodroplets.

Pedro Alcaraz completed their Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from the University of Arizona in 2019. Pedro then continued their studies at the same university and obtained a Master of Science (MS) in Optical Sciences in 2022.
