Reed Jacob

Senior Software Engineer | Software Task Lead at Applied Research Associates, Inc.

Reed Jacob has a strong background in computational biology and software engineering. Reed is currently a Senior Software Engineer and Software Task Lead at ARA, where they are responsible for leading software tasks. Prior to this, Reed was the Head of In-Silico Research/Comp. Biochemist at UPL, where they led functions related to computational capabilities and managed various activities for the New AgTech division. Reed also worked at BASF as part of the Computational Biology R&D Group, spearheading operations related to communication and business alignment. Additionally, Reed has experience in the Computational Life Sciences Group at Bayer Crop Science, where they provided lead optimization and launched in-Silico protein engineering as a viable technology.

Reed Jacob obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. During this time, their field of study was focused on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, with a minor in Molecular and Cellular Biophysics. Prior to their doctoral studies, Reed earned a Master's Degree in Computational Biochemistry from Boise State University from 2008 to 2012. Reed also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Theory and Composition from Boise State University, which they obtained from 1999 to 2004.

In addition to their formal education, Reed Jacob has pursued further certifications to expand their skillset. These include an Executive Data Science Specialization from Coursera, obtained in September 2022, and a course on AI for Scientific Research, also obtained from Coursera in July 2022. Reed has also obtained certifications in Executive Leadership and The 45-Minute Business Plan from LinkedIn in February 2022.
