Julian Ray

Chief Architect at aPriori

Julian Ray has extensive work experience in the technology industry. Julian began their career in 1990 as the Director of the GIS-T Laboratory at the University of Tennessee Transportation Center. From 1997 to 1999, they worked as a Software Scientist at Intergraph Corp. In 1999, Julian founded TransDecisions Inc. and served as the Co-Founder and CTO until 2003.

In 2005, they founded C2GLogistics and held the position of Founder/CTO until 2007. From 2007 to 2008, Julian worked as the CTO at AuctionPal. Julian then became the VP of Engineering at Genstruct Inc. from 2008 to 2010, and later served as the SVP of Technology & Engineering from 2010 to 2012.

In 2012, Julian joined Cambridge Systematics as a Senior Software Architect and Full Stack Ruby on Rails Engineer. During their time there, they worked on the development of TransAM, a transportation-focused asset management and capital planning framework. In 2016, they moved on to become the Director of Software Architecture at Mobee | Now Wiser Solutions, Inc., where they designed and delivered a cloud-based microservices stack.

Since 2018, Julian has been working at aPriori Technologies, initially as a Senior Architect and later promoted to Chief Architect in January 2021.

Throughout their career, Julian has provided consulting expertise to various Boston area start-ups, offering strategic, tactical, and operational advice in software strategies, organizational makeup, security, hiring, team profiles, and systems architecture. Julian is experienced in a range of technologies, including Ruby on Rails, Java, and AWS.

Julian Ray obtained a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of Reading, where they studied from 1981 to 1984. Julian then pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, from 1985 to 1990.
