Avery Ching

Avery Ching has a diverse work experience spanning different companies and roles. They are currently working as the Co-Founder & CTO at Aptos since December 2021. Prior to that, Avery was a Vice President of Apache Giraph at The Apache Software Foundation from September 2011. At Novi Financial, they served as a Principal Software Engineer and tech lead of the crypto platform team, focusing on blockchain technology, from October 2018 to December 2021.

Before joining Novi Financial, Avery worked at Facebook as a Principal Software Engineer. Their responsibilities included being the overall tech lead of various BigCompute teams, such as Spark and Graph processing, and overseeing company-wide big data batch workloads from September 2011 to December 2021. In addition to that, Avery co-led efforts to unify pipeline development across different domains and played a key role in developing technologies like batch scheduling and Facebook Spark.

Avery's earlier work experience includes serving as a Principal Software Engineer at Yahoo! from October 2007 to September 2011. They also worked as a Graduate Student at Northwestern University from 2002 to 2007, where they gained valuable academic experience. Avery had internships at Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos Laboratory while pursuing their graduate studies. They also worked as a Givens Fellow at Argonne National Laboratory in 2004.

Avery Ching attended Punahou School from 1994 to 1998. After completing their high school education, they furthered their studies at Northwestern University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from 1998 to 2002. Avery Ching then pursued a higher level of education, earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Computer Engineering from Northwestern University between 2002 and 2007.
