Emily Yam is the Director of Learning and Public Engagement at the Aquarium of the Pacific, a position held since September 2007. In this role, Emily has successfully restructured the education department, created a diverse team, and developed comprehensive education programs during the pandemic. Previous positions at the Aquarium include Senior Manager of Education, Science Interpretation Manager, Science Interpretation Supervisor, Science Interpretation Coordinator, and Education Specialist, each with a focus on climate change messaging, program development, and staff training. Prior experience includes roles as a Data Analyst at Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory and Field Technician with the US Antarctic Program, along with a background in science communication and grant management. Emily holds a Master’s degree in Marine Science from the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Secondary Science Education from the University of Virginia.
