Debra Hale-Shelton

Debra Hale-Shelton is an experienced newswoman with a diverse background in journalism. Currently at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette since September 2004, Hale-Shelton has conducted extensive investigative reporting on the University of Central Arkansas, resulting in the resignations of two university presidents, one of whom faced federal felony charges. Previous experience includes freelance writing for Hadassah Magazine, focusing on topics relevant to the Jewish community in Chicago, as well as a long tenure at The Associated Press from 1983 to 2001, where Hale-Shelton served as a general assignment reporter, feature writer, editor, desk supervisor, and broadcast writer, including coverage of the arts in Chicago. Educational credentials include a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Science in English and Journalism from Arkansas State University, along with foundational education at Marked Tree High School.
