Michael Shone currently serves as the Head of Department for Applied Sciences and Social Practice at Te Pūkenga since November 2022. Prior to this role, Michael held multiple positions at Ara Institute of Canterbury from April 2017, including Director of Research, Scholarships, and Postgraduate Studies, Director of Academic and Research, and Senior Lecturer with a focus on International Tourism and Hospitality Management. Michael's academic career began at Lincoln University (NZ), where extensive roles included Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management and Programme Leader for various tourism and recreation programmes. Michael possesses a PhD in Tourism Public Policy and Planning and has contributed to sustainable tourism initiatives as a Research Consultant at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research.
