Gabriela Elena Oprea, PhD

Gabriela Elena Oprea, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Gabriela Elena began their career at Traian Technical College in 2000 as a Biology Teacher. Gabriela Elena then moved on to the Institute of Genetics as a Scientist from 2000 to 2002. Following this, they joined the Institute of Human Genetics, University of Cologne as a Research Fellow and PhD student from 2002 to 2007. During this time, they also served as a Research Fellow and Postdoc at the same institute from 2007 to 2008.

In 2009, Gabriela joined Ganymed Pharmaceuticals AG as a Scientist and worked there until 2011. Gabriela Elena then transitioned to Centogene AG in 2012, where they held the role of SVP Digital Products. At Centogene AG, they successfully built and led an international team to develop and implement curation software and processes, as well as knowledge-based digital products in a regulated environment.

In 2020, Gabriela joined Personal Genetics as the Executive Director, a position they held until 2021. Currently, they are working at Arcensus, where they hold the roles of Chief Data Officer since 2021 and Chief Operating Officer since 2023.

Gabriela Elena Oprea, PhD, completed their Bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Bucharest from 1996 to 2000. Gabriela Elena then pursued a Master's degree in Genetics at the same university from 2000 to 2002. Following this, they attended the Institute of Human Genetics at the University of Cologne, where they obtained their PhD in Neurogenetics, with a focus on Spinal muscular atrophy, from 2002 to 2007.
