David Thomson

David Thomson has extensive work experience in the field of pharmaceutical research and development. David is currently a Co-Founder, CSO and Head of R&D at Archean Biologics, a role they have held since 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Scientific Officer at Atomwise from 2021 to 2022, where they were responsible for building and leading the AI-driven drug discovery and development organization.

Before joining Atomwise, Thomson worked at Precision BioSciences, Inc. from 2017 to 2021, initially as the Chief Development Officer and later as the Chief Operating Officer. In these roles, they were responsible for shaping and executing the company's preclinical, clinical, and manufacturing strategies, as well as overseeing internal operations and resource allocation.

Thomson also has experience working at Shire Pharmaceuticals, where they held several senior leadership positions. From 2016 to 2017, they served as the Senior Vice President and Global Head of Research and Nonclinical Development, responsible for the strategy and operational direction of the organization. David also held the role of Senior Vice President and Global Head of Research and Development Operations from 2015 to 2016, where they oversaw program management, portfolio management, and R&D outsourcing.

Earlier in their career, Thomson worked at Biomanufacturing Research Institute and Technology Enterprise (BRITE) and North Carolina Central University as a Director, Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, respectively.

Thomson began their career at Boehringer Ingelheim in 1994, where they held various roles including Vice President and Laboratory Head. Their responsibilities at Boehringer Ingelheim included leading drug discovery programs, managing research departments, and developing therapeutic area strategies.

In addition to their industry experience, Thomson has served as an Adjunct Professor at Western Connecticut State University, where they taught a course in drug discovery.

Following their doctoral studies, David went on to undertake a postdoctoral program in Chemistry at Yale University from 1986 to 1989.
