Srikannathasan Velupillai began their education at Vasavilan Central College in Jaffna, Srilanka, where they graduated with a GCSE A/L degree in High School in the year range of 1986 to 1993. Srikannathasan then went on to pursue a BSc Honours degree in Biochemistry at the University of East London, completing it from 1995 to 1999. Following this, Srikannathasan Velupillai undertook a PhD program in Biological Chemistry and Structuralbiology at the University of St Andrews for the period of 1999 to 2001. Srikannathasan further pursued a second PhD degree in the same field, Biological Chemistry and Structuralbiology, at the University of East Anglia from 2001 to 2002.
