Katherine Semrau

Deputy Director at Ariadne Labs

Katherine Semrau is an experienced public health professional currently serving as the Director of the BetterBirth Program at Ariadne Labs since 2014. This initiative focuses on improving maternal and newborn health in Uttar Pradesh, India, by studying the impact of the WHO Safe Childbirth Checklist on survival rates and maternal harm. Semrau's previous roles include Assistant Professor at Boston University’s Center for Global Health and Development and Instructor at the Boston University School of Public Health. Additionally, Semrau was a Senior Program Manager at the Center for International Health & Development and a Project Coordinator at ZEBS, where efforts centered on safe breastfeeding practices for HIV-infected women in Zambia. Semrau holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Boston University, an MPH in International Health from The University of Alabama, and a BS in Biology with a focus on Applied Ethics from The George Washington University.
