Rebecca Matthews

Rebecca Matthews has an extensive work experience in the arts and cultural sector. Rebecca is currently serving as the Director & CEO of ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum since January 2022. Prior to this, they were a Member of the UK Government Expert Advisory Panel for the UK City of Culture 2025. Rebecca also held roles as a Member of Arts Advisory Panel at Musikhuset Aarhus, a Board Member at VisitAarhus, and the Managing Director at Glasmuseet Ebeltoft. Rebecca Matthews has also contributed to the arts community as a Trustee and a member of the Development & Philanthropy Committee at the Royal Albert Hall. Rebecca served as the Director at Goodenough College from 2018 to 2021. Earlier in their career, they held the position of CEO at Aarhus 2017 Foundation, European Capital of Culture and Director New York & Global Partnerships at the British Council. Rebecca also worked at the Sydney Opera House as the Head of Government Relations and CEO's Office.

Rebecca Matthews began their education in 1986 at the University of Cambridge, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Hons and a Master of Arts (MA) Hons in Modern and Mediaeval Languages. Rebecca completed their studies at Cambridge in 1990.

In 1993, they furthered their education at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London, where they earned a Master of Arts (MA) Hons in History of Art. Rebecca completed this program in 1994.
