Erik Beckman has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Erik started their career at Oakland Zoo, where they worked as a Zoo Attendant and later as a Paid Apprentice. Erik then gained experience as an IT Intern at Synopsys before joining MAST CSU East Bay as a Tutor. At the University of California, Santa Cruz, Erik worked as an Undergraduate and conducted research as an Undergraduate Research Assistant, focusing on contemporary evolution using three-spined stickleback as a model organism. Erik also served as a Lead Peer Mentor during their time at the university. Erik Beckman completed their Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from the University of California, Santa Cruz during the period from 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they attended Ohlone College from 2014 to 2017, where they studied Biology, General. In 2008 to 2011, Erik attended Las Positas College, although specific details about their degree or field of study were not provided.
