Francesca Cecinati

Francesca Cecinati has a diverse work experience in the fields of strategy, data science, research, and environmental analysis.

Francesca is currently working as the Head of Strategy at Artesia Consulting Limited, where they collaborate with the board to design the business strategy and make strategic decisions for business growth. Francesca also leads the R&D, Growth, and Marketing teams. Prior to their current role, they served as a Senior Data Scientist at the same company, where they led teams in delivering projects and providing technical expertise in areas of machine learning, modelling, and statistics. Francesca also mentored colleagues, planned resources effectively, and maintained relationships with clients.

Before joining Artesia, Francesca worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at the University of Bath, conducting research on weather and climate modelling for building design purposes. Francesca used programming languages such as Python and JavaScript for their analysis and modelling work.

Francesca also worked as a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher at the University of Bristol, where they studied radar rainfall data uncertainty and its impact on hydrological models. Francesca developed numerical algorithms in R to merge rainfall datasets using parallel processing.

Francesca has had various other research roles, including being a Visiting Researcher at Witteveen+Bos, a PhD Researcher at Eawag, and a Young Graduate Trainee at the European Space Agency. In these positions, they conducted climatic analysis, tested geohazard platforms, and prepared flood mapping products.

Francesca also has experience working in the humanitarian sector through an internship at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Francesca has also interned at the CIMA Research Foundation and collaborated with the Università degli Studi di Genova as a tutor for hydraulics classes and improving algorithms for calculating local risk thresholds.

Francesca Cecinati has a strong educational background in civil and environmental engineering. Francesca obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol in 2017, with a focus on their field of study. In 2015, they had a PhD secondment at Delft University of Technology, further enhancing their expertise in civil engineering. Francesca also holds a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Environmental and Water Quality Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which they completed from 2012 to 2013.
