Joseph Nechvatal

Joseph Nechvatal is an experienced art critic and educator with a focus on contemporary art, technology, and avant-garde movements. Since November 2019, Joseph has served as an art critic for Artforum International Magazine, while also contributing to Whitehot Magazine and The Brooklyn Rail since 2014 and 2010, respectively. Joseph taught at the School of Visual Arts since 1999, focusing on the intersection of art and computer technology, and previously held a position at Stevens Institute of Technology from 2003 to 2009. Additionally, Joseph was the Parisian Correspondent for Hyperallergic from 2013 to 2022, writing art and book reviews. Joseph holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wales, Newport, as well as M.Phil work in Philosophy of Art from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University.
