Michelle McLeod, PhD, ATC has a diverse work experience in the field of athletic training and academia. Michelle currently works as the Director of Osteoarthritis Clinical Research Programs at the Arthritis Foundation. Prior to this, they served as the Program Manager of the National Center of Neuromodulation for Rehabilitation (NC NM4R) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at MUSC College of Health Professions from 2019 to 2023. Michelle also worked at the College of Charleston as an Assistant Professor in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from 2014 to 2020, where they also served as the Clinical Education Coordinator for Athletic Training from 2014 to 2019. Michelle gained experience as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Toledo from 2013 to 2014. Earlier in their career, Michelle worked as an Athletic Trainer at MIT from 2008 to 2010, and at The Pennsylvania State University from 2007 to 2008. Michelle also served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2005 to 2007, where they also worked as an Instructor of Physical Education and a Teaching Assistant. Michelle McLeod holds a PhD and is an ATC.

Michelle McLeod, PhD, ATC completed their education in a sequential manner, focusing on exercise science and athletic training. Michelle began their educational journey by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Athletic Training from the University of Northern Iowa between 2001 and 2005. Following this, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Exercise & Sport Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2005 to 2007.

Continuing their academic pursuits, Michelle then attended The University of Toledo from 2010 to 2014, where they successfully obtained a PhD in Exercise Science. During their time at The University of Toledo, they specialized in this field of study.

In addition to their extensive education, Michelle has also obtained various certifications. In May 2005, they became a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer. More recently, in June 2020, Michelle obtained the RYT 200 certification from the Yoga Alliance, demonstrating their knowledge and expertise in yoga.
