Jessica Backus has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Jessica started their career at Peres Projects as an Associate Director, where they played a crucial role in establishing gallery operations in a new Berlin space. Jessica maintained strong relationships with key clients and contributed to the success of numerous European museum exhibitions for gallery artists.

After their tenure at Peres Projects, Jessica joined Phillips de Pury & Company as part of the Special Projects / Client Services team. Jessica worked closely with the Head of Special Projects to conceptualize and execute exhibitions, charity auctions, and marketing projects. Jessica also contributed to brand development and helped develop objectives to support the auction house's core business.

In 2012, Jessica became a Contributing Editor at The Travel Almanac, a biannual publication focused on travel from the perspectives of artists and innovators. Jessica edited, translated, and wrote travel reviews and interviews for the magazine.

Jessica joined Artsy in 2014 as a Researcher for The Art Genome Project, a comprehensive art classification system and discovery engine. Jessica oversaw the process of cataloguing artists and artworks and developed and implemented training programs for the art team members. Jessica was later promoted to Research Manager, where they continued to ensure the integrity of the project's data structure and oversaw the training program for genoming and database structure introduction.

At Artsy, Jessica took on various leadership positions, including Director of Artsy Learning and The Art Genome Project, where they aimed to make Artsy the leading online resource for art education. Jessica also served as Director of Gallery and Art Fair Relations, where they led a team of 30 and focused on providing a world-class customer experience to gallery clients. In their most recent role at Artsy, they served as Senior Director of Marketplace Strategy and Operations, driving product adoption and engagement, overseeing client relations, and developing strategies for partner success on the online art marketplace.
