Markus Hörer serves as the Chief Scientific Officer at Ascend Advanced Therapies since February 2023, focusing on the development of scalable gene therapies. Prior to this, Markus has held key leadership roles at FreeLine Therapeutics as Managing Director & CTO since May 2015, and at VBBio Consultant as a freelancer since April 2014, providing operational support in life sciences and early-stage drug development. Markus' prior experience includes serving as Director of Virus-based Biologics at Rentschler Biotechnologie GmbH, where responsibilities encompassed business development and project leadership. Additionally, at MediGene AG, Markus held various roles including Director of Early Stage Development and Director of Quality Control & Analytics, contributing to the advancement of AAV-based technologies and vaccine development. Markus earned a Doctorate in Natural Sciences from Universität Heidelberg.
