Phillip Gillespie

Phillip Gillespie currently serves as the Chief Legal, Risk and Compliance Officer at Ascensus since February 2025. Prior to this role, Gillespie was a Senior Counsel at WilmerHale from February 2020 to February 2025. From June 2008 to January 2019, Gillespie held the position of General Counsel and Executive Vice President at State Street Global Advisors, overseeing the global legal affairs of one of the largest asset management firms. Gillespie also served as Deputy General Counsel and Senior Vice President at OppenheimerFunds from May 2004 to May 2008, managing a legal department dedicated to a US-based investment adviser and mutual fund complex. Earlier in the career, Gillespie was First Vice President of Legal Advisory at Merrill Lynch from January 1997 to January 2004, responsible for various legal matters and team management. Gillespie holds a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School.
