George Wong, PhD is an experienced professional in the pharmaceutical industry. George has held various leadership roles in different companies throughout their career.

From 2018 onwards, George served as the Vice President of Product Development and Production at Ascentage Pharma. In this role, they were responsible for building multi-functional CMC departments, manufacturing drug product for clinical studies and commercial distribution, and optimizing formulations and manufacturing processes. George also led the development of a GMP DP manufacturing facility and developed operational plans to meet technical and business goals.

Before joining Ascentage Pharma, George worked at Assembly Biosciences, Inc. as an Executive Director and Consultant from 2013 to 2017. During this time, they led pharmaceutical development activities, managed a CMC team, and oversaw drug substance and drug product manufacturing at global sites.

Prior to that, George was an Associate Director at Kyowa Kirin International plc. from 2009 to 2013. In this role, they led global cross-functional teams in formulation and process development, packaging, scale-up, and technology transfer. George also managed third party outsourcing activities.

George began their career at Johnson & Johnson in 1991. George served as a Manager of Formulations/Technical Operations from 2003 to 2008, where they managed internal resources for projects in Phase I-IV development phases. George also held roles as a Principal/Senior/Research Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Preformulation departments, leading projects to characterize the physicochemical properties of small molecules, peptides, and protein actives.

Throughout their career, George Wong has been instrumental in driving pharmaceutical development, optimizing manufacturing processes, and managing global cross-functional teams. George has a strong background in CMC activities, formulation development, and technology transfer.

George Wong, PhD, received their Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Fresno in 1984. George then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy at Oregon State University, which they completed in 1988. Continuing their education at Oregon State University, Dr. Wong went on to obtain their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Pharmaceutics and Drug Design in 1991. In addition to their academic qualifications, they hold a Black Belt certification from GoLeanSixSigma.com, which they obtained in July 2017.
