Filipe Pereira has a rich and diverse work experience in the field of molecular medicine, stem cells, and cell fate reprogramming. Filipe began their career as a PhD student at Imperial College London, where they made significant contributions to the cell reprogramming field. Filipe then joined the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as a Postdoctoral Fellow, where they introduced cell reprogramming concepts to hematopoiesis.
In 2015, Pereira established their independent research group as an Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra, focusing on cooperative transcription factor binding in hemogenic induction. Filipe later co-founded BRT Blood Reprogramming Technologies Lda in 2016, before joining Asgard Therapeutics in 2018 as a Co-founder, Board Member, and Head of Innovation. At Asgard Therapeutics, their work aimed to unleash the immune system against cancer by establishing dendritic cell reprogramming as a new approach.
Pereira then joined Lund University in 2017 as an Assistant Professor at the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine. Their research focused on understanding the molecular determinants underlying cellular reprogramming and hematopoietic specification. Filipe was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2019 and became a Professor and Wallenberg Fellow in Molecular Medicine in 2022. Filipe led an excellent research team of scientists, students, and technicians bridging the fields of immunology and stem cells.
In addition to their academic work, Pereira held the position of Editor-in-Chief of Cellular Reprogramming at Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. starting from 2021.
Overall, Filipe Pereira's work experience demonstrates their expertise and dedication in the fields of molecular medicine, stem cells, and cell fate reprogramming.
Filipe Pereira pursued their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology, General from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto between 1998 and 2002. Following this, they enrolled in the Graduate Program in the Areas of Basic and Applied Biology (GABBA) at Universidade do Porto for the academic year 2002-2003. Filipe later continued their education at Imperial College London from 2004 to 2009, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. However, the field of study for their PhD is not provided.
