Muhammed Nirjas

PHD Scholar

Muhammed Nirjas is currently a PhD student at Ashoka University, focusing on evolutionary immunology and multi-omics approaches to study host-pathogen interactions. As a member of the Operations Standing Committee at Ashoka University since August 2023, Muhammed collaborates with the administration, faculty, and academic leadership to address operational challenges while advocating for the PhD community's needs. Previously, Muhammed completed a Master's dissertation at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram, examining the regulation of PINK1, a key player in mitophagy associated with neurodegenerative diseases. An internship at the same institution involved investigating proteins in mitophagy relevant to Parkinson's Disease, utilizing various molecular biology techniques. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Amrita School of Biotechnology and an MSc in Biological Sciences from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research.
