Asif Cheema

Director, Private Sector Financial Institutions Division at Asian Development Bank

Asif Cheema is currently the Director of the Urban & Social Sectors Division at the Asian Development Bank. Asif has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector, working in Investment Banking, Equity/M&A Execution, and Global Finance.

Asif started their career as a Research Associate at Deutsche Bank in 1996. Asif then moved to JP Morgan as an Associate in their M&A division in 2000. In 2003, they joined HSBC as an Associate Director.

In 2007, Asif moved to Lehman Brothers as a Director in their Global Finance division. Asif was responsible for originating and executing a range of global finance transactions including equity, equity linked, and debt issuances.

In 2008, Asif left Lehman Brothers and joined Nomura as an Executive Director in their Investment Banking division. Asif was responsible for UAE and Qatar client coverage and M&A execution. In 2012, they joined Alpen Capital(ME).LTD as the Head of Equity/M&A Execution.

Asif has a proven track record in successfully executing M&A transactions, private placements, and advisory services. Asif has worked on several mandates for GCC clients in connection with M&A (buyside and sell-side) and equity private placements.

Asif Cheema received their MBA in finance from Yale University and their BS in accounting from the New York Institute of Technology.

Asif Cheema works with Thomas Panella - Director, Environment, Natural Resources & Agriculture Division, Xiaoqin Fan - Director, Public Management, Financial Sector & Regional Cooperation Division, and Sujata Gupta - Director, Sustainable Infrastructure Division.
