Karin Schelzig

Karin Schelzig is an experienced development professional with a focus on human and social development, currently serving as a Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) since April 2004. Leading a team of specialists in education, health, and social protection, Karin has successfully designed and delivered complex programs across 23 countries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, with notable achievements in 2023 including 12 new investments totaling $2 million. Previously, Karin held several key roles at ADB, including Principal Social Sector Specialist for both East Asia and Southeast Asia Departments, where responsibilities included leading programs in social protection and education. Earlier career experience includes working as a Development Specialist at DAI and conducting economic and social research as a Research Associate at Bannock Consulting. Karin's academic background includes a Ph.D. in International Development Studies from The London School of Economics and Political Science, complemented by a Master’s from the Elliott School of International Affairs and a Bachelor’s from Tufts University.
