Ramesh Subramaniam is an experienced leader in international development, currently serving as the Director General and Chief of the Sectors Group at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) since March 1997. Under Ramesh's leadership, the Sectors Group delivers impactful policy dialogues and solutions aimed at fostering inclusive and sustainable growth in ADB’s developing member countries. Previous roles at ADB include Director General for the Southeast Asia Department, overseeing a comprehensive portfolio of loans and grants, with a significant focus on COVID-19 recovery efforts. Ramesh has also managed procurement, portfolio, and financial management initiatives and has extensive experience in regional cooperation and economic integration. Prior to ADB, Ramesh held research fellow positions at Yale University and the University of St. Andrews, and served as a lecturer at McMaster University. Ramesh holds a PhD in Economics from McMaster University and multiple degrees in economics from the University of Madras.
