Mark Fortner has a long history of working in the life sciences industry. Mark began their career in 1994 as a Marketing Technologist at Landmark Graphics, where they created a sales and marketing database and managed the company website. In 1997, they moved to Shell Services International as a Consultant. In 1999, they joined Genometrix as a Senior Software Engineer. In 2001, they became the Manager of Bioinformatics Software Development at Lexicon Genetics, where they developed software applications for drug target identification and validation. In 2005, they joined the University of Houston as a Senior Bioinformatics Software Engineer. In 2006, they moved to Pfizer as a Senior Advisor, where they implemented projects in support of screening and drug safety. In 2007, they joined L-3 Communications as a Senior Software Engineer. In 2008, they moved to Takeda Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Software Engineer, where they developed a shipping module for a legacy compound management system and implemented over 200 new change requests. In 2014, they founded an early stage startup. Finally, in 2009, they founded Aspen Biosciences, a provider of customized software solutions for the life sciences industry. While at Aspen Biosciences, they designed a polypharmacy drug development application called Cocktail and created a drug pipeline management application.
Mark Fortner attended Clayton Valley High School from 1979 to 1981, Balboa High School from 1981 to 1983, and Texas A&M University from 1983 to 1988, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
