Michael McGowan

Michael McGowan is a seasoned ecologist with extensive experience in aquatic science and environmental consulting. As the Principal Ecologist and Owner of Maristics since 2002, Michael has focused on fish and aquatic science, wetlands, water quality, and environmental permitting, including NEPA, CEQA, and ESA compliance. Additionally, Michael serves as a Senior Associate at Aspen Environmental Group, concentrating on marine biological impacts of energy projects. Previous roles include Senior Project Manager at ETIC Engineering, where responsibilities included technical review and staff mentoring, and Adjunct Professor of Environmental Management at the University of San Francisco, where a graduate course on Environmental Permits and Compliance was developed. Michael's career also includes consulting on native oyster restoration at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center and significant research and teaching roles at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies. Michael holds a Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography from the University of Miami and advanced degrees from San Francisco State University in Marine Biology and Biology.
