Declan McCarthy has a diverse work experience spanning different industries. Declan started their career as a Trainee Accountant at Carmody, Leen, O'Donnell & Co., where they gained experience in preparing final accounts, tax returns, and working on company audits. Declan then joined Moloney, McCarthy & Associates as an Assistant Accountant, where they prepared final accounts for sole traders, calculated and submitted VAT returns, and performed administrative duties. Declan also worked at Diomac Business Systems as a Customer Support Technician, providing technical support to customers, assisting in ERP customization, and planning ERP implementation for new clients. Additionally, they worked as a Computer Science Graduate at Diomac Business Systems, where they created a Wiki site for their software product. Declan also volunteered at Coder Dojo, a coding club. Most recently, they worked at Aspen Grove Solutions, initially as a Tier 2 Application Support Engineer, where they resolved application issues and provided assistance to Tier 1 members. Declan then transitioned to the role of Data Integrations Developer.

Declan McCarthy completed their education at various institutions. Declan began their academic journey in 1999 at Causeway Comprehensive, where they studied but did not obtain a degree. From 2003 to 2007, they attended Munster Technological University, earning a BBS(Hons) Degree in Accounting. Following that, from 2008 to 2011, they pursued a Part Qualified CPA degree in Accounting at BPP Professional Education. In 2011 and 2012, they returned to Munster Technological University to complete a Higher Diploma in Computer Science.

In addition to their formal education, Declan McCarthy has also obtained certifications. In 2020, they achieved the "Exam 761: Querying Data with Transact-SQL" certification from Microsoft. The following year, they became certified in "MTA: Introduction to Programming Using Python - Certified 2021," also offered by Microsoft.
