Elfid Torres is a seasoned executive and strategist with extensive experience in the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Latin America. Currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of FUNDES since April 1998, Elfid has been instrumental in advocating for a thriving small business sector as a vital component of the region's economic stability. Prior roles include Strategy Director, International Manager for Research & Development, and Manager of Studies and Competitiveness at FUNDES, where Elfid focused on strengthening competitiveness and business dynamics in Latin America. Additional contributions include co-founding Fundamental, a startup initiative aimed at addressing traditional economic needs, serving on the Executive Committee of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs, and acting as President of the Board of Directors at MerKomuna. Elfid holds an MBA from INCAE Business School, an MA in Development Studies from the University of East Anglia, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs —ANDE, founded in 2009 — is a pioneering member network of organizations focused on supporting and strengthening small and growing business ecosystems and working to end poverty and promote prosperity through entrepreneurship in developing economies. ANDE, hosted by the Aspen Institute, operates via eight dynamic regional chapters spanning Africa, Asia, and The Americas. Our members have provided invaluable support to hundreds of thousands of small and medium enterprises through their collective efforts, focusing on investment, developing and sharing the evidence base for what works in incubation, acceleration, access to capital, business planning, mentoring, and much more.
