Francielle Tramontini Gomes de Sousa

Francielle Tramontini Gomes de Sousa has extensive experience in the field of biomedical research. Francielle currently works at Assembly Biosciences, Inc. as a Scientist II, Discovery Biology. Prior to joining Assembly Biosciences, Francielle worked at the University of California, Berkeley as an Assistant Research Scientist and later as a Postdoctoral Researcher. Their research focused on studying the pathogenesis of flaviviruses and SARS-CoV-2, with a specific emphasis on endothelial disfunction and plasma leakage. Francielle also conducted evaluations of various therapeutics, including monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, and antivirals, to prevent severe disease caused by these viruses.

Before their time at UC Berkeley, Francielle worked as a Post-doctoral fellow at the Universidade de São Paulo. Here, they established an in vitro model of vascular permeability to study the mechanisms of dengue disease. Francielle also evaluated the efficacy and safety of dengue vaccine candidates and screened compounds with therapeutic potential for preventing vascular impairment caused by dengue infection. Additionally, they evaluated compounds for potential antiviral activity against Zika virus.

Furthermore, Francielle completed their doctorate at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and gained internship experience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
