Nazneen Rahman

Professor Nazneen Rahman has significant scientific, medical and data analysis experience. Her research integrates these to identify and clinically implement human disease genes. She has a strong focus on cancer predisposition genes, in which she is an internationally-recognised expert. She was Head of the Division of Genetics and Epidemiology at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London and Head of Cancer Genetics at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust for 10 years to 2018. Professor Rahman was also the founder and Director of the TGLclinical Genetic Testing Laboratory, which used new sequencing technologies to deliver fast, affordable, cancer gene testing to the NHS.

Professor Rahman qualified in medicine from Oxford University in 1991, gained her Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in medical genetics in 2001 and completed a PhD in molecular genetics in 1999. She has a strong commitment to open science and science communication and has garnered numerous awards, including a CBE in the 2016 Queen’s birthday honours in recognition of her contribution to medical sciences.
