Chief Engineer at ASTRI

Asa Chan has a diverse work experience, starting with a role as an Analyst Programmer at YesAsia.com in 2006. In 2007, they joined the Hong Kong Observatory as a Programmer and later transitioned to the role of Analyst Programmer, where they developed internet content management systems and worked on mobile and web-based application development. In 2014, Asa moved to ASTRI - Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, where they took on various roles including Senior Software Engineer, Senior Lead Engineer, Associate Principal Engineer, Principal Engineer, and currently serves as the Chief Engineer. During their time at ASTRI, Asa worked on several projects related to chatbots, natural language processing, text classification, Chinese word segmentation, and multilingual word embedding.

Asa Chan started their education by earning a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Computer Science from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in the years 2004 to 2006. After completing their undergraduate degree, they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Information System Management at City University of Hong Kong from 2010 to 2013. Currently, Asa is a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) student in Computer Science and Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology starting from the year 2023. In addition to their formal education, Asa has obtained several certifications, including "Essential Google Cloud Infrastructure: Core Services" from Coursera in July 2022, "Essential Google Cloud Infrastructure: Foundation" from Coursera in April 2022, "Google Cloud Platform Fundamentals: Core Infrastructure" from Coursera in June 2021, "Project Management Professional (PMP)" from the Project Management Institute in April 2021, "Data Analysis with Python" from Coursera in July 2019, "Machine Learning" by Stanford University on Coursera in May 2019, and "Knowledge Management and Big Data in Business" from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on edX in October 2015.
