Doug Beck

Senior GNC Engineer at Astrobotic Technology

Doug Beck has a wide range of work experience in various engineering roles. Doug started their career in 2010 as a Research Assistant at Stanford University, where they worked on seismic isolation system development for the Advanced LIGO project. Doug then worked as a Part-Time Adjunct Professor at Three Rivers Community College, teaching engineering dynamics.

In 2011, Doug joined Pratt and Whitney as a Software/Computer Engineer, where they integrated component models into a closed loop engine simulation and conducted dynamic stability analysis for a jet engine control system. Doug also worked as a Control Software Consultant at Rethink Robotics, where they developed arm-joint models and control laws for robotic joint concepts and assisted in testing the control software.

From 2014 to 2016, Doug worked at Blue Origin as an Avionics Software Engineer, focusing on control software development for the New Shepard sub-orbital vehicle. Doug also developed a framework for open loop testing and assisted with embedded software verification.

In 2016, Doug worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Coren Metal Inc., a family-owned metal fabrication business. During their time there, they created shop NC code programs, operated machinery, and worked on the maintenance and commissioning of a CO2 Laser CNC machine.

From 2017 to 2020, Doug worked at SES Satellites as an Attitude Determination and Control Systems Engineer. In this role, they created operational products for spacecraft operations automation and wrote plans for manual operations.

Most recently, Doug joined Astrobotic in 2020 as a Senior GNC Engineer. Doug is part of a five-person GNC team within the Planetary Landers Department, working on lunar lander contracts awarded by NASA. Doug'sresponsibilities include integration and modeling of GNC sensors and serving as a liaison between the GNC team and NASA for a LIDAR system.

Overall, Doug Beck has demonstrated expertise in various engineering disciplines, including software development, control systems, robotics, and mechanical engineering.

Doug Beck has a diverse education background in the fields of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Computer & Information Systems, and Mechanical Engineering. Doug completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics from Cornell University in 2009, graduating with Cum Laude honors. In 2010, Doug pursued their interest in Aeronautics and Astronautics and earned a Master of Science degree from Stanford University. Doug'sspecialization during their time at Stanford was Dynamics & Control. In 2014, they further expanded their knowledge in the field of Computer & Information Systems by completing a Graduate Certificate program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute between 2012 and 2014.
