His ROW career started with a phone call in 1985 from Land and Buildings, the real estate division of General Telephone (subsequently GTE, Verizon, Frontier, and now Ziply Fiber), seeking his assistance in acquiring a site for a remote switch building on a vacant 10-acre parcel of Snohomish County land. This request led to further demands for his service, a new career path, and the beginning of a very long-term association as a contractor to General Telephone and its successors.
Before that, Karl had been marketing and developing vacant land parcels and unknowingly acquiring a growing interest and experience in many real estate-related fields that would prove very valuable in his work for the next 40+ years.
