Alex Turner has a strong background in the medical industry, particularly in the field of orthopedics. They started their career as an intern at Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics in 1997. After this, they held various roles at NuVasive from 2005 to 2017, including Test Engineer, Associate Manager, Manager, Senior Manager, and eventually Director of Research & Testing. In 2017, they joined Alphatec Spine as the Sr. Director of Biomechanics & Clinical Application, and later moved up to the role of VP of Scientific Affairs in March 2021.

From 1990 to 1993, Alex attended Geelong Grammar School, where they completed their secondary education.
From 1994 to 1998, Alex studied at the University of Melbourne, earning a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering. During the same period, they also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the same university.
In 1999, Alex enrolled at UNSW and pursued a Master of Biomedical Engineering degree, which they completed in 2000.
Subsequently, from 2000 to 2004, Alex continued their studies at UNSW, where they received a PhD degree in an unspecified field of study.
In addition to their formal education, Alex obtained a certification in "Finance for Non-Finance Professionals" from Coursera in March 2020.
