Berk Gurakan

Berk Gurakan is currently serving as the Vice President of Engineering at Athelas since April 2021, following a tenure as a Software Engineer at Facebook where contributions included news feed, user interest modeling, and recommendations. Prior experience includes roles as a Senior Software Engineer at Uber from September 2016 to November 2019, focusing on micromobility platforms and machine-learned maps, along with routing and travel time estimation. Berk began academic pursuits as a PhD student at the University of Maryland, College Park, achieving the publication of four journal papers and nine conference papers, with a total of 500 citations. Additional experience comprises an internship at Qualcomm and a Systems Engineer position at RMK Marine.
