Kai-Bin Ooi

Associate Director, Program & Portfolio Management at Athira Pharma

Kai-Bin Ooi has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Starting in 2017, they worked as a Research Assistant at Seattle Children's for a year before joining Nofsinger Group as a Marketing and Business Development Intern in 2018. At Nofsinger Group, Kai-Bin developed lead generation databases and supported marketing efforts.

In 2019, Kai-Bin joined the University of Washington - School of Medicine as a Research Engineer and Study Coordinator. In this role, they managed clinical education studies and conducted learning/usability studies with the Department of Defense and the American College of Surgeons. Kai-Bin also had responsibilities in mechanical and anatomic design, software user testing, technical documentation, and process optimization.

Kai-Bin joined Athira Pharma in 2021 and took on various roles, starting as a Clinical Project Manager. Kai-Bin then moved up to become a Senior Global Project Manager, where they oversaw Phase II-III clinical trials in Alzheimer's disease and other dementia types. Later, Kai-Bin became a Senior Program Manager, providing strategic program management and serving as Chief of Staff to the CMO. Most recently, they hold the position of Associate Director, Program & Portfolio Management, where they continue to contribute to strategic decision-making and execution.

Throughout their career, Kai-Bin has demonstrated their abilities in program management, clinical trial oversight, research, and marketing.

Kai-Bin Ooi earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Questrom School of Business at Boston University from 2023 to 2025. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Washington College of Engineering. They also completed a certification in Biotechnology Project Management from the University of Washington. Additionally, Kai-Bin Ooi studied Mechanical Engineering for two years at Seattle University.
